Monthly spot-on drops such as Frontline or Fipet go on the skin at the back of the neck and are the simplest routine for cats and dogs. Collars such as Seresto last up to 8 months. Chewable tablets such as Bravecto and NexGard work for three months and are the best choice for dogs that swim or are bathed often. Sprays treat an existing infestation and the home. Always match the product to the species and weight band; dog products can be fatal to cats.

- How often should I treat my pet?
- Monthly for most spot-ons and sprays, every three months for Bravecto tablets, and every 8 months for a Seresto collar, following the pack for your pet's weight.
- Can I use dog flea treatment on a cat?
- No. Permethrin products for dogs are toxic to cats. Use only products labelled for cats.
- My pet still has fleas after treatment. Why?
- Eggs in the home hatch for weeks. Treat all pets in the house, wash bedding at 60 degrees, vacuum daily and use a home spray; the product itself keeps working.
